A beautiful day! Sunshine, no frost this morning, and it was a warm. It definitely felt like spring.
With this perfect weather came some of our first visitors of the season. We started packing tires bright and early this morning, and we had made it through half of our tires on hand when Caroline Cooper and her family dropped by. Caroline blogs at http://eatkamloops.org, a group committed to developing local food sources for the Kamloops area. Caroline and Shane are interested in alternative building so they dropped by with their daughters (Sonya and Erica) to see what we are up to.
We talked for a few hours about building, chickens, locally produced food, home schooling, and best of all paddling. The Coopers have canoed the North Thompson River right past our door as it turns out. Something we talked about doing last year, and hope to do this year … maybe we will have company if we actually do it?
The Coopers travel in style! They arrived at our doorstep with one of their cooked (still warm) chickens in hand. Having worked so hard this morning, and not likely to turn down a free lunch, we set up a table and had our first meal of the year outside. It was an enjoyable experience, perhaps missing only a bottle of wine!
Towards the end of lunch a pickup truck pulled in to the yard and the passenger mentioned that she could not help noticing the big pile of tires in our yard. What were we doing? It turns out she is planning to build an earthship and she was quite excited to happen upon one.
After lunch the Coopers helped us finish packing tires. We now only have a handful of tires left to finish the front wall. So, we actually did get something accomplished on a beautiful spring day! What about you?
