We are now about half way done the front tire wall. It seems to go faster in a straight line, and working close to the ground helps a lot. We have decided to do the bond beam in pop cans, rather than wood. At this point in the building, there will be dirt and moisture very close to our wall. I’m sure Chris will expound on this next week when we get to it!
It occurred to me that we are going to need more pop/beer cans. Thanks to our many volunteers last summer I have tons of beer bottles, many clear ones (Carona) but many are brown (Alexander Keiths!). We will use bottles in the interior walls to let in light and to create designs on the walls, so in my opinion the brown bottles are the least desirable…
Yesterday I went to our return depot here in Barriere. I hadn’t seen Mrs. Corrigal in some time! Saving all our pop cans/beer bottles meant we were never returning anything. I asked her point blank if I brought in my brown bottles, could I exchange them for pop/beer cans. Sadly, there is some rule/regulation that when the bottles hit the depot, they can’t leave. I’ve quit questioning the rules and just try to figure out some way to accomplish my goal.
We will continue to scan the roadways as usual, and we have family and friends who still donate cans to us (thank you!). We’ve hesitated about putting out signs asking for donations of cans because so many youth groups in our area do bottle drives.
However, in an effort to increase our numbers of cans dramatically over the coming weeks I’m prepared to trade. If anybody out there has cans I will trade you for brown beer bottles!!! I’d be more than happy to come to you!

Hi Again
I run bottle drives for the Lk Bonavista Scouts in Calgary and we have people show up and buy coloured bottles or large beer bottles for home brewing. You should just show up at a bottle drive or call the local scout group and go there and trade or buy some of theres.
If my scout group was in your town I would bring the kids to your site to see what you are doing.
the kids are the ones we need to win over for their future.
Thanks
