Over the last week we have been putting the first of the beams into place. These beams extend from the shortened interior tire walls and catch the last rafter sets running east/west.
As you can see from the picture the beams do not have posts coming down inside of the building, rather they are carried out to the south wall and the posts come down in line with that wall. I was appalled when we were looking at where the actual posts came down inside the building, and particularly how the space in the kitchen was affected. This was definitely one of those situations where what looks good on paper did not appear so promising in reality! Fortunately there was a simple solution in this case and as I said we simply opted to extend the beams out to the front wall, changing the spans but not the supported loads.
Something I had forgotten …. log beams are heavy! I wish someone would get around to inventing a sky hook.
I also discovered that wordpress supports pdf files … so the plans of the building are now PDF‘s (https://www.darfieldearthship.com/plans).
